If you haven’t heard of kulning, don’t worry—it’s an ancient form of herding call from Scandinavia that has largely fallen into disuse in the last few centuries. Luckily, people like Swedish artist Jonna Jinton are keeping the tradition alive. Kulning is an undeniable part of the sounds of Sweden, and just a few strains of these haunting and evocative songs will make you want to jump on a plane to hear them in person. Here are a few of my favorite videos highlighting these spellbinding melodies from another age.
